I spent most of my 35+ adult career years working as a secretary (later
called administrative assistant), customer service representative, or
data entry clerk.
Additionally I spent eight years on active duty in the
US Navy in communications, sending and receiving military messages from very influential people. Errors were not allowed.
In
fact, I love the English language so much that I even provided virtual
lessons to European, Russian, and Japanese adult students for eight
months by telephone and internet through GoFluent.com. Unfortunately
that position required a home phone, but I only had a cell phone when we
started traveling.
Pay attention to detail was instilled in me
with all these positions, so noticing typos in emails, web sites, road
signs, pamphlets, and just about anything in writing jumps out at me. It's almost a curse at times.
